Our Mission

Founded in 2021, we energize the conversation by empowering locals with nearby organizations to clear the air around urban composting. Only 4% of available food was composted in 2018.

Where to go? What to do? Who to ask? We are here to answer - and teach you ways to fight back against deforestation and food waste along the way!

WHY COMPOST?

Food Waste & Hunger
Americans generate about 295 million tons of MSW every year. The largest portion of that trash is food and kitchen scraps, resulting in the waste of about 40% of our food supply. With food insecurity issues on the rise, lets change that!
Landfills & Landscapes
More than half of the yearly MSW that Americans ends up in a landfill with the largest portion of that supply being food scraps. Studies suggest that we will run out of landfill space in less than 20 years. Reducing landfill deposits saves 35% of that area for forests and other natural ecosystems.
Cost Savings & Sustainability
The average household throws out 43% of total food, equating to a loss of $1,500 per year for a 4-person home! And that’s not even larger food providers, such as restaurants and retail. Composting is a sustainable way to prolong both food and finances without toxic unnatural pesticides or chemicals.

BENEFITS OF COMPOSTING

Compost Improves Soil Structure & Functioning = More Crop Growth!

The organic material in compost allows soil to retain higher amounts of water, nutrients & air. This reduces erosion and optimizes the ecosystem for larger yields of more nutritious product - without much extra effort!

With Better Soils, There Is Less Need for Synthetic Fertilizers

Improved soils welcome friendly micro-organisms that ward off pests & diseases for plants, much like probiotics do for us! Nutrients from compost also last longer than man-made counterparts.

Smaller Landfills & Greenhouse Gas Emissions

Diverting kitchen scraps into compost reduces unsightly landfills and their methane gas. Unlike landfills, composting mimics nature’s way of breaking down material by introducing air into the system, while holding onto carbon and eliminating dangerous greenhouse gases.
